Welcome to Guelph!
The Canadian Association of Planning Students – L’Association Canadienne des Étudiants en Aménagement et en Urbanisme (CAPS-ACEAU) is a non-profit student-driven organization that hosts an annual conference for Canadian planning students. This year, the 2010 CAPS-ACEAU conference will be held at the University of Guelph in Ontario, February 4th – 6th, 2010.
The conference brings together planning students from across the country to expand their knowledge and engage in discussions about urban and rural planning issues both in Canada and internationally. The conference offers students the chance to collaborate with each other and with professional planners and academics to explore progressive solutions to today’s most pressing planning challenges. It also provides the opportunity for students to present their own research, meet potential 
employers and learn about exciting jobs in their field.
This year’s conference theme is progressive planning, and will feature a host of provocative speakers, exciting mobile workshops, student oral and poster presentations, and fun social events all three nights. Session themes will include planning in First Nations communities, multiculturalism, climate change, healthy communities, sustainability and transportation, local food and agriculture and international planning. Our featured speakers include: Guillermo Peñalosa, former Commissioner of Parks, Sport and Recreation for the city of Bogotá, Colombia and current Executive Director at 8 – 80 Cities (formerly Walk and Bike for Life); Matthew Blackett, publisher, creative director and one of the founders of Spacing magazine; and a special address from Elizabeth May, leader of the Green Party of Canada. We will also be featuring a special screening of a new documentary film from Leonie Sandercock and Giovanni Attili.
Conference activities will take place in the Landscape Architecture Building, MacKinnon Building, East Townhall, Thornbrough Building, University Centre (UC), Peter Clark Hall in the basement of UC, the Science Complex and Brass Taps Bar (in University Centre), all on the University of Guelph campus. The conference closing party will take place at the Albion Hotel in downtown Guelph. Click on the links for location details or check out this link for more information.
