2017 Request for Proposals

Greetings Colleagues:

On behalf of the CAPS-ACÉAU Executive Board of Directors, thank you for your interest in hosting the 2017 CAPS-ACÉAU Conference. For those of you unfamiliar with the RFP process, it is a common approach to the procurement of services throughout planning and wide array of professions. This open call for proposals allows us to solicit submissions from students across the country, even if they were not able to attend the conference the previous year. Additionally, by working through the proposal process, the successful team will be well positioned to deliver an extraordinary conference in celebration of CAPS-ACÉAU 33rd anniversary. We recognize that preparing a proposal application requires a significant amount of time, creativity, and energy, and we would like to commend you for your effort as you collaboratively engage upon this journey.

While planning the conference is a significant undertaking, we trust you will find it to be a tremendously rewarding experience. You will emerge as a team of competent leaders, with the proven ability to navigate complexity, deliver on deadlines, and implement a vision. You will have the opportunity to build relationships with students and professionals from across the country, shape the agenda for planning discourse, and most importantly, provide a forum for the advancement of planning thought leadership.

“I often speak to colleagues and other professionals in various capacities on the importance of leadership, coupled with an ability to manage projects effectively and efficiently with a comprehensive vision. CAPS-ACÉAU enhanced this personal skillset and I can now safely say that I am able to manage multiple projects of various scales both effectively and efficiently. This is the most demanding and rewarding undertaking you can immerse yourself in as a student.” – Matthew M. Boscariol, MES Planning: President, Toronto, 2014.

"To collaborate and coordinate with students from the Université de Montréal (UDEM), Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), and McGill University was the single greatest team building exercise I experienced as a student.  The relationships I created as member of the Conference Planning Committee with students from both Montréal and all over Canada opened my eyes to the amount of great talent this country has to offer. Ultimately I was honored to represent my university (Concordia University) at the national level, in what was a great conference!" – Alexander Bilotta M.U.P Wayne State University: Vice-President , Montreal, 2013.

“CAPS was a fantastic opportunity to see the amazing things students are doing across Canada in the ever-expanding field of planning. For me, it was an amazing opportunity to get a crash course in some skills that have, and will continue to be invaluable to me in my personal and professional life. Most importantly, it was an opportunity to showcase what our tight-knit group at Simon Fraser (University) could do when we worked together. CAPS was the most challenging yet fulfilling thing I did during my Master's degree. “- Carlos Zavarce, M.R.M. Planning: Treasurer, Vancouver, 2012.

"Helping to organize and host the CAPS conference in Guelph was an incredibly valuable opportunity. It allowed me to build my leadership and facilitation skills, helped me to get over a fear of public speaking and provided me with many networking opportunities with other planning students, faculty and professional from across Canada." - Meredith Davis, M.Sc. Rural Planning and Development: President, Guelph, 2010.

Once again, we would like to thank you for your interest in hosting the 2017 CAPS-ACÉAU Conference, marking 33 years of history. Our profession is full of active and engaged individuals, collectively committed to doing great work. This opportunity awaits those who are ready to step up to the challenge. We look forward to receiving your application, and collaborating in the future.

Warmest Regards,

John Atienza, Chair & Chief Operations Officer

Matthew Boscariol, Vice-Chair & Chief Administrative Officer
