CAPS - ACÉAU

Welcome to Montreal

CAPS-ACÉAU association is happy to announce the return of the conference to Montréal in February of 2013 after four years of successful engagement across Canada in a multitude of cities. CAPS-ACÉAU Conference 2013, entitle “Idencités/Idencities”, will be held between February 1st-3rd. It is with great pleasure we announce the joint collaboration of our partners Université de Montréal, McGill University, Université de Québec à Montréal-École des Sciences de la Gestion, and Concordia University.

Theme

Entitled "Idencités / Idencities", the 2013 edition of the CAPS-ACÉAU annual conference will focus on the theme of urban identities. Through a variety of conferences, workshops and visits, the 2013 conference will provide participants with the opportunity to explore the intersection of the character of a place and the planning practices which shape it, in order to better understand how these two elements reinforce and enrich one another. What can planners learn from the cultural specificities of a place? How should they go about planning in a way that acknowledges the identity of a city and of its inhabitants in order to foster a professional ethic that respects the context in which it functions?

Holding the conference in Québec presents a remarkable opportunity to highlight local cultural specificities. Students from all four of our partner universities have the desire to showcase Montreal, the city we share. A key element of our project is the promotion of the city which we love, and which we wish to help participants discover.
