Marni Cappe

Marni Cappe is the principal consultant and owner of M Cappe Consulting, specializing in local governance and urban policy.  With more than 30 years experience as a professional planner, Ms Cappe has worked for federal, provincial and local governments, as well as business and non-government organizations.  In 1988, she joined the Planning Department at the Region of Ottawa-Carleton as Housing Policy Manager, and during the following twelve years, also served as Manager of Land Use Policy and Infrastructure, and finally, as Acting Director of Housing, responsible for housing and homelessness issues.  In 2001, Ms Cappe joined the Federation of Canadian Municipalities as Senior Policy Advisor, responsible for the Quality of Life Reporting System, the Big City Mayors Caucus, and research and policy on local government finance.

As principal of M Cappe Consulting, she has recently engaged in a variety of projects, in areas relating to: affordable housing, sustainable infrastructure, climate change, immigration strategies, and local governance.

In 2009, Ms Cappe joined the Faculty of the School of Urban and Regional Planning at Queen’s University as an adjunct Professor.

Ms Cappe is the President of the Canadian Institute of Planners, and a Senior Associate of the Canadian Urban Institute.  She holds a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Toronto.
