Karen Landman

PhD MCIP RPP

Karen Landman is an Associate Professor in the School of Environmental Design & Rural Development at the University of Guelph. Karen has an interdisciplinary background in horticulture, landscape architecture, rural planning and development, and cultural geography. She has had a design practice for over 20 years, and has worked as a planner at the County of Renfrew.

Her current research interests include urban agriculture, local food systems, and land stewardship. Recent projects include a multi-stakeholder research project to identify opportunities and constraints for local food consumption entitled “Rural-Urban Linkages for Local Food in the City of Guelph-County of Wellington Landscape” and a review of best practices in local food systems across Ontario. Karen recently published a chapter entitled “Rural Landscape Change and Societal Values” for the newly released book Rural Planning and Development in Canada.
