The Canadian Association of Planning Students received three very strong proposal to host the 2012 CAPS-ACÉAU Conference, including Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Ryerson University in Toronto, and a joint application from Montreal by Université de Montréal, Concordia University, Université du Québec à Montréal, McGill University, and INRS (Centre Urbanisation, Culture et Société).
The current Board of Directors spent 12 hours, over three separate meetings, extensively reviewing and considering the applications. The proposals were evaluated based on the criteria outline in the Request for Proposals document issued February 6th, 2011.
We are very pleased to announce that the School of Resource and Environmental Management at Simon Fraser University has been selected to host the CAPS‐ACÉAU Conference in 2012!
Their proposal exhibited a pragmatic approach with a theme and sub‐themes that will provide the opportunity to explore regional, national and international issues anchored by excellent speakers and a livable cities mayoral panel. We are confident that the urban laboratory of Vancouver will provide an ideal environment for planning students to learn, network and socialize.
We are aware of the amount of time required by all applicant teams to develop proposals of such a high calibre. All teams should be commended for their tremendous efforts. Thank you.
