A message from Katarina Vuckovic, University of Guelph’s Canadian Institute of Planners student representative:

A warm welcome to incoming Rural Planning and Development Students! This is promising to be a memorable year for all future planners at the University of Guelph! In particular, there is much excitement brewing around the 2010 Canadian Association of Planning Students – L’Association Canadienne des Étudiants en Aménagement et en Urbanisme (CAPS-ACEAU) Conference – which Guelph is proudly hosting this year from February 4–6. The theme for this year’s gathering will be Progressive Planning and students are busy organizing an exciting list of presenters and workshop themes that will address today’s pertinent social, environmental, economic, and cultural issues. For this conference and for other events, students are looking at collaborating more closely with Landscape Architecture and Capacity Development students in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development in order to integrate the different perspectives from these related disciplines. It is exciting to be in this field at such a critical time globally, and to have such rich opportunities to make a difference in people’s lives— in reshaping our profession to meet local and global challenges.
